September 10, 2014: Time for a double dose of history! First off, we celebrate Sewing Machine Day because this is the day back in 1790 when the first patent was issued, to an English carpenter named Thomas Saint. As far as TV Dinner Day goes, the dinners themselves were first made by Swanson back in 1953. (Although portable, heatable meals were available back in the ’20s, Swanson marketed it toward the watchers of the boob tube.) I’m not sure if they started selling them on September 10, or if this date was just chosen arbitrarily. Either way, now I’m in the mood to nuke up a partitioned tray of food.
