October 24, 2013: Today is Good and Plenty Day, the unofficial celebration of what was (quite possibly) the first trademarked brand-name candy. And in my research, I learned that the pink-colored ones use an extract from dried bugs as a colorant, so only the white ones are vegan. But if you ask me, I’d rather eat pink dried bugs than the licorice-flavored insides of a Good and Plenty. Because licorice is an abomination. (I’m also not entirely sure if the white ones are actually Good, and the pink ones Plenty. Anyone?)
Today is also United Nations Day, formed this day in 1945. And yes, I do usually picture the UN representatives coming to agreements on lots of things, and high-fiving each other. Inside my head, it’s a wondrous world where white and pink dudes can get along.
I also threw in National Food Day, even though I can barely consider Good and Plentys to be food. Although I guess the dried bugs count.
