November 6, 2013: Basketball Day marks the birthday of one James Naismith back in 1861. Not only did he invent the game of basketball, he’s also frequently credited with inventing the first football helmet. (That’s American football, not the original kind.) Naismith shares his birthday with Adolphe Sax (1814), inventor of the saxophone, which also makes today Saxophone Day. Last but not least, we have Marooned Without a Compass Day. Although I have to say, if I were marooned on a deserted island, a compass might not be the handiest thing to have. I’d probably prefer a good Leatherman or Swiss Army knife.
If you’re of a similar age as I, then you’ll be able to guess my favorite band of all time from this doodle. 🙂
