March 7, 2014: Break out the Cheerios and Grape Nuts — it’s National Cereal Day. A couple of days ago, I made note of how Cheetos puffs tear up the roof of one’s mouth. Cap’n Crunch? DOUBLY SO. But at least the Cap’n is already good to go for Dress in Blue Day, which is one of those awareness-raising holidays. This one is for raising awareness of colon cancer, which I can get behind (pun!) because of my Crohn’s Disease.
Today is also Middle Name Pride Day, and did you know that Cap’n Crunch’s full name is Horatio Magellan Crunch? I myself can’t celebrate this holiday, as I don’t have a middle name. I was given one at birth (and a first name that is not Missy), but as a birthday treat to myself a number of years ago, I changed my name legally to Missy, and dropped my useless middle name. I guess now I can say it is whatever I want it to be — Danger, Trouble, Darth, Magellan, Whatever. (Ooh, Missy Whatever Meyer has a nice ring to it.) Last but not least, it’s National Doodle Day, a day near and dear to my heart. It’s another awareness holiday — this one is a fundraising effort for epilepsy. I’m in, since really, I’ll doodle for any good reason, or no reason at all.
