March 2, 2014: A happy birthday today to Theodor Geisel, born in 1904; in his honor we celebrate Dr. Seuss Day. (Note to internet: NOT “Suess”!) It’s also National Banana Cream Pie Day, which is another entry on the long, long list of things I’ve never eaten. (Not with a fox, or in a box, or on a train … et cetera.) I’m not a fan of cream pies in general, because of texture issues. Plus, I’ve always thought of banana cream pies as more comedy props than actual foodstuffs. What is it about bananas, their pies, their peels, their telephone-like shapes, that makes them so rich for comedy?
