I’m not a fan of pears, myself — they’ve always struck me as mushier, less flavorful apples. Then again, I don’t really care for most apples either, since they’re usually too sweet. A good, tart Granny Smith is the apple for me.
I’d be interested to see a study on how many dishes with person-names are named after women, versus how many are named after men. I get the feeling that women would come out FAR on top. It just feels like it’s always Pears Helene or Quiche Lorraine, and never, y’know, Joe Sandwich.
