March 1, 2013: Unlike so many of the “national” holidays that have no actual backing, National Pig Day appears to be a genuine US holiday, started in 1972 “to accord the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized, place as one of man’s most intellectual and domesticated animals.” Nationally recognized or not, Peanut Butter Lovers Day is a banner day for those of us who like it creamy, chunky, or any way we can get it. And Dress in Blue Day is a great holiday for a cause, helping the Colon Cancer Alliance battle that awful disease. So let’s raise a piece of bacon slathered with Jif in honor of those fighters in blue.
