June 8, 2014: Today is Best Friends Day, so be sure to give a little love to your BFF, whether it’s another person or your beloved canine sidekick. It’s also Jelly-Filled Doughnut Day, which seems really close behind straight-up Doughnut Day from earlier this week. But really, if we can get all of the doughnuts out of the way at once, it’s probably better for everyone (and for everyone’s waistlines).
Last but not least, today is Scott Adams’ Birthday. Back in 2007, Scott took an interest in my own Scott’s comic, Basic Instructions (when BI was just going full-time after a few years of sporadic production), and helped boost the BI signal to a lot of now-faithful readers. So for that, I’ll be eternally grateful to the man. (Plus, we’ve met with him, and he’s a very nice guy.)
(Funny thing, reading back to the comments on Adams’ post. One commenter wrote, “I admire the fact that you’re essentially apprenticing this cartoonist. I think that all of us, in whichever fields we work, have an obligation to reach out and selflessly guide another person. But not for free. You have to ask one thing in return: that some day, when Scott is in a comfortable position of success, that he passes along the favor.” And I’m happy to say, my Scott has freely given advice and guidance to a number of other cartoonists and writers.)
