July 11, 2014: It’s National Rainier Cherry Day today, and if you’ve never tried them, do yourself a favor and do. They’re so much more flavorful than those sad old Bing cherries. They were developed in the ’50s back in my home state of Washington, thus the Rainier name. I’m always delighted to find that they’ve made it all the way down here to Florida. Today is also Slurpee Day, also known as 7-Eleven Day, since in the American way of writing dates, today is 7/11. I know that last year you could get a free small Slurpee at any 7-Eleven location, and I’ll bet they’re doing much the same again this year. (And if you haven’t seen them yet, check out the straws with mustaches attached to them that they’re selling now.)
