January 2, 2014: Yesterday we all said Happy New Year; today, we say Happy Mew Year for Cats! Of course cats deserve their own day to celebrate — we had one, and we are their mere servants. So crack out the tuna and tiny hats. It’s also National Science Fiction Day, a day for all of us geeks and nerds to come together in long-lived and prosperous harmony. This particular day was chosen for the holiday as it’s the day Isaac Asimov celebrated his birthday. I can’t say it was his actual birthday, because that’s a pretty fascinating story in and of itself. Due to the lack of proper records and the differences between the Hebrew and Julian calendars, he may have been born anytime between October 4, 1919 and January 2, 1920. So he rolled with the latter date and called it good.
At any rate: may the Force be with you always, live long and prosper, don’t blink, make it so, Klaatu barada nikto, come with me if you want to live, always know where your towel is, and open the pod bay doors. So say we all.
