February 25, 2014: National Clam Chowder Day is one of two chowdery holidays in the early part of the year; the un-doodled New England Clam Chowder Day falls on January 21st. I guess this one is more all-encompassing, and allows the Manhattan style as well. Pistol Patent Day marks the day back in 1836 when Samuel Colt was granted a patent for his multi-bullet Colt Revolver.
Thinking of firearms reminds me of when Scott and I took a firearms safety course, because Groupon had a great deal and it was close to our house. (Which, thinking back, probably weren’t the best criteria for choosing a company to teach us how to fire guns.) I turned out to be freakishly good at shooting, who knew? I even tried turns in the simulators using my left hand, and also with the gun turned on its side, gangster-style. (Hit the targets no matter what.) Good times.
