
Seems like we just had plain old “Basketball Day” recently, but that was to honor … the ball itself, I guess? This one’s all about getting in there and playing the sport. I played youth league basketball as a kid, but was never terribly good at it.
In other news, doesn’t “Business of Popping Corn Day” feel a little specific? It actually honors the day in 1885 when Charles Cretors founded his company (“C. Cretors & Company”), which invented the first large-scale commercial oil popcorn popper. No longer was popcorn something that just got popped in a pan over the fire! (And did you know, you can buy commercial popcorn and oil packets and use them at home? I’ve purchased Great Northern packets at Amazon, and they pop up great in a regular pan on the stovetop!
