August 12, 2014: Today is IBM PC Day; on this day back in 1981, IBM introduced the IBM-5150, a smaller and lighter-weight computer than any they’d made before. It sold for $1,565.00 (in 1981 dollars!) and had a whopping 16k in user memory. It’s amazing how far we’ve come since then.
In another throwback theme, it’s also Vinyl Record Day today. It appears that vinyl is making a wee bit of a comeback with collectors, although I don’t expect records to really come back in style for the masses. I don’t think I’ve owned a vinyl record for at least 10 years. Though I’m sure there are still those who would argue that they have a better sound than CDs or MP3s.
