April 12, 2014: National Grilled Cheese Day; Licorice Day; Slow Art Day

April 12, 2014: First off, today is my birthday. I’m turning 42, and I’m delighted about it — who doesn’t want to be the answer to life, the universe, and everything? It’s also National Grilled Cheese Day today, which I’m greatly in favor of, especially since I finally tried Udi’s gluten-free bread from the freezer section of the supermarket. Frozen bread scared me, but it’s pretty good and really easy to just set out to thaw. I’ve had my first grilled cheese sandwich in years, and it was delish!

Today is also Licorice Day, and I’m 100% in favor of the red kind. I’m also 100% against the black kind. And sadly, my guts are 100% against both kinds, because licorice is mostly made of wheat flour and sugar. Who knew! I always thought it was an all-sugar affair.

Last, today is Slow Art Day, a day meant for enjoying art in a slow manner. Take a good long look, get an eyeful, really enjoy the subtle nuances and not-so-subtle nuances of your favorite works of art.
