September 2, 2014: National Blueberry Popsicle Day; Bowling Shirt Day; Pierce Your Ears Day

September 2, 2014: Of all the flavors out there, I have to wonder why we have a National Blueberry Popsicle Day. I don’t know that I’ve ever actually seen a blueberry Popsicle. We usually only have the orange/grape/cherry combo box in the grocery store; sometimes if we’re lucky, we also get root beer/banana/lemon-lime. But if you could ever find a blueberry one, I bet it’d be cool and refreshing.

Today is also Bowling Shirt Day, which has a veiled and un-findable history. But they’re cool, so I’m cool with celebrating them. Last but not least, it’s Pierce Your Ears Day today. I had mine pierced when I was around 12, with a piercing gun at a place in the mall. I don’t recommend following my lead; the piercings were too low, and piercing guns aren’t the cleanest things in the world. A piercing I got at a tattoo/piercing shop was much cleaner, neater, and straighter. Leave punching permanent holes in your body to trained professionals, not teenagers at the mall.

I hope there’s a paleta day out there. I’m just so fond of Mexican-style popsicles, especially the flavors with chile.

Daddy was a paramedic when he pierced all our ears. He even pierced his own to prove to his mother that it “doesn’t hurt” – but she hadn’t been a medic in Vietnam and therefore associated herself with the USMC, who all (according to Daddy) believe that “Pain is just Weakness Leaving the Body.” HA!

Still, all of our piercings were quick and easy, and in the right place, and clean.

I have never seen a blueberry popsicle. I don’t believe they exist. I’ve seen knock-offs that were BLUE, but there’s no way you could say that the flavor was “blueberry.”

Comment away!

(But please keep it clean.)
